This provocation consisting of empty egg cups and the dish of eggs will be laid out as objects for children to engage with. This provocation can be set up similar to the topmost image, or even with the first two egg cups filled with an egg each to give children an idea of what the activity is all about.

This provocation can be adapted to include a range of numbers beyond 5.
Unlike the provocation on the left, this learning experience requires children to physically move and individual objects to form a collection that directly corresponds with a given number. For example, each nest has a number attached to it, and the children have to move the correct number of chicks into the nest. Other ways of engaging with this learning experience:
